ZALA 421-16 – a special complex based on aircraft type drone, which perform remote monitoring and has an average duration of the flight. The creation of this model was a revolutionary step in the development of Russian design and operation of UAV systems. ZALA 421-16 differs with integration of completely new innovative solutions, the use of which had a positive impact on every characteristic of the device.

July 10, 2009 on this UAV set a record for duration of the flight, which was 12 h. 21 min.

Purpose of the unmanned vehicle is to conduct surveillance in a wide range of weather conditions of the underlying surface (land, water and complex terrain), detect and search facilities. Sends and receives real-time thermal images of area, works as a transmitter, detects objects and coordinates, collects, process and storages other information. The complex is equipped with the new software package VIZA, which greatly simplifies the work of interpreter.

The standard version of the UAV has a SLR digital camera with a resolution of 10 megapixels and a video camera with a recording device, and video capture, mounted on a gyro-stabilized platform. In an optional embodiment, the device is equipped with an IR camera. UAV is able to deliver medicines, weapons and cargo over distances up to 50 km, in 200 m radius. In the case of failure of electronic devices a backup navigation system is used.

Similar to the previously released models ZALA 421-08 and ZALA 421-04M, UAV ZALA 421-16 is created by design of “flying wing”. The main competitor of the UAV drone is “Aileron-10D”. In the development of ZALA 421-16 much attention was paid to its low visibility. This is why many Russian defense and security structures need this complex. In particular, representatives of Emergency Situations, Ministry of Internal Affairs, the Federal Security Service of the SS and the Ministry of Defense are interested in the drone. The Border Guard Service reported that its tactical and technical characteristics of ZALA 421-16 are well suited for a variety of tasks for the state border protection, in particular for extended flight over long distances.
